Health reveal
Christina Applegate has multiple sclerosis. The "Married… With Children" alum revealed the news on Twitter on Aug. 9. "A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It's been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It's been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going," the "Dead to Me" star wrote. The following day, she added, "As one of my friends that has MS said 'we wake up and take the indicated action.' And that's what I do. So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing."

HUGE conservatorship change
The #FreeBritney movement got some huge and dramatic news this week. On Aug. 12, Britney Spears' father, Jamie Spears, agreed that it was time for him to step down as conservator of her estate. He cited public pressure as a reason for his decision. "Even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests," his lawyer said in court documents. "So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter's new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator." Brit and her team have been asking Jamie to step down for months, so this is a huge win for her (although her team wants him to leave immediately). Jamie did not end the filing without a self-congratulatory pat on the back, saying Britney was in dire need of help when he took over her life. "Not only was she suffering mentally and emotionally, she was also being manipulated by predators and in financial distress. Mr. Spears came to his daughter's rescue to protect her," the docs said.
Internet's envy
Eminem's daughter, Hailie Jade, stopped the Internet in its tracks this week after posting two bikini snaps to Instagram. In the snapshots, Hailie, 25, donned a high-waisted bikini with sunglasses. Her Instagram followers envied her flat stomach, fit physique, tanned body and scenic surroundings. Fans threw out words such as "beautiful," "amazing," "pretty" and "unreal." As expected, the comments section was overrun with people using fire emojis and heart-eye emojis. "aye aye, captain," she captioned the photos. Instagram is a "stan" for Hailie.
Hosting duties
"Jeopardy!" is host-less no more. On Aug. 11, it was announced that the show's executive producer Mike Richards would be succeeding the late Alex Trebek and become the new permanent host of the syndicated game show. Deadline reported that the show will actually have two hosts, as "The Big Bang Theory" alum Mayim Bialik will host the quiz show's primetime and spinoff specials. "IT'S TRUE!!! Been waiting a long time to tell you all. Really really honored and astounded and excited for this – it's beyond anything I ever imagined could happen," she tweeted after the news was confirmed.
Engaged
Katie Thurston has found her person. The star of "The Bachelorette" season 17 got engaged to Blake Moynes on the season finale of the show, which aired on Aug. 9. The engagement came after she told Blake that she loved him, something she vowed to not do until the end of the season (she then sent Justin Glaze home; Greg Grippo left on his own accord a week prior). "What a wild couple of months it has been. I couldn't have done this without you," Katie wrote on Instagram alongside a picture with her new fiancé on Aug. 9. "I'm so ready to leave these bubbles and start living our life! I couldn't ask for a better partner. You are kind, patient, understanding, and your advocacy for the planet and animals is remarkable. I'm so lucky to call you my fiancé 💍. My best friend. My confidant. We are just two weirdos laughing our way through life together. Cheers to the upcoming adventures!" Blake posted his own image smooching Katie after the finale aired. "You're a rock. My rock. A mature, nurturing, supportive & loving partner who continues to impress me everyday," he wrote. "We have an adventure called life ahead of us and I hope you know I'll do everything I can to help, push and encourage you to make the most of every little bit of it!"
Romance rumors
Ross and Rachel… for real? Sadly, no. Pop culture junkies and "Friends" fanatics were sent into a tizzy this week after an Aug. 9 Closer report claimed that Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer were quietly dating after reconnecting on the set of the "Friends" reunion earlier this year. "It became clear that reminiscing over the past had stirred up feelings for both of them and that chemistry they'd always had to bury was still there," an alleged insider said. "They began texting immediately after filming and, just last month, David flew from his home in New York to see Jen in L.A…. David's smitten with Jen and the feelings are definitely mutual." A few days after the report, David said there is "no truth" to the story.
Hit the showers!
The great bathing debate of 2021 has continued… and the showerers of Hollywood have come out in force. On the heels of several top-line celebs openly discussing their aversion to regular bathing, several celebs have weighed in on the other side of the debate. Dwayne Johnson was trending after he said he showers three times a day! Jason Momoa said did he wasn't about to start any smelly trends. "I shower, trust me," he told "Access Hollywood" on Aug. 9. "I'm Aquaman. I'm in the f****** water. Don't worry about it. I'm Hawaiian. We got saltwater on me. We good." Cardi B added her two cents on Aug. 10, tweeting, "Wassup with people saying they don't shower? It's giving itchy." Terry Crews said he showers multiple times a day.
Resignation reaction
It's more and more uncommon to have Democrats and Republicans agree on something, but it happened on Aug. 10 after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he was resigning amid sexual harassment accusations. Stars from both parties seemed to rejoice. Meghan McCain, an outspoken conservative, tweeted, "History will look back on the way the media covered Andrew Cuomo the past 19 months and it will be studied in journalism classes as the worst kind of dishonest malfeasance 'journalism' has to offer." Democrat Cynthia Nixon — who previously ran against Cuomo in New York's 2018 gubernatorial election — said, "This is a good day for New York. This is the start of accountability, but more needs to be done to keep women safe. That means prosecuting Cuomo to the full extent of the law." Jon Cryer wants people to take responsibility for their actions. "Let's make this the year of accountability," he tweeted. "Cuomo resignation for sexual harassment And Trump charged for sexual harassment, rape, obstruction of justice, tax, insurance and bank fraud as well as conspiracy and inciting a violent effort to overthrow a free and fair election."
